The Costumer’s Guide to Movie Costumes : Maggie is such a dear, and her huge compilation of images and information on film costuming, with an emphasis on historical costuming, has saved my butt numerous times!
Demode : Kendra has more links to pictures of real Victorian garments on the web than anybody else I know! And her own work is impeccable!
The Costumer’s Manifesto : The one-stop shop for links to costuming sites. Literally thousands of links compiled and catagorized here!
Karen Augusta Antique Lace and Fashion : Karen’s Archives are always eye-candy!
La Couturiere Parisienne : A huge collection of paintings and pictures from a wide range of centuries!
LACMA- Los Angeles County Museum of Art : Their costume section is very useful!
The Padawan’s Guide : This is Maggie’s other site, focusing extensively on the Star Wars films.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art : Again, a great costume/fashion section.
Victoria and Albert Museum : No explanation necessary here;)
Fashion Era : An invaluable resource of information on a wide range of periods; everything from articles to fashion plates to hair tutorials!
Your Wardrobe Unlock’d : An online costuming magazine; yours truly is a regular contributor!

Abimilech Hainsworth : British company that sells period-appropriate wool.
Accessories by Susan : My shop for filigree and brass stampings. Anytime I need to make a brooch or find a ribbon cap, this is where I go!
Cheep Trims : Fabulous site for bulk trims at cheap prices. Be aware, though: they require a minimum order.
Costume Jewelry Supplies : Another great site for stampings and filigrees, along with a huge selection of rhinestones in various sizes!
Dharma Trading : The shop for dyeable natural fabrics and professional fabric dyes and paints.
The Dollmaker’s Journey: great site for patterns, supplies, etc for dollmaking!
The Dressmaker’s Shop : This little shop near Lansing, MI has a huge selection of historically correct fabrics for multiple time periods. they also carry a lot of other odds and ends, and the proprietors are lovely;)
Greenberg and Hammer: Based in New York, I have used them as my corset materials supplier for many years. Eventually they will have an online cart, but for now, just call them!
Hyena Silks : A huge selection of very high-end silk!
Sapphire and Sage Jewelry: Impressive historical reproductions at very reasonable prices!
MacCulloch and Wallis : Another British company, this one selling beautiful fabrics, trims, and millinery supplies.
Originals By Kay : Kay Gnagey is one of the foremost Civil War costumers around, and her shop has some wonderful fabrics, kits, and ready-made dresses.
Silk Baron : Andrew has, quite simply, the most beautiful silks at the best prices. I have been ordering from him for years, and he has always been a joy to deal with!
Truly Victorian Patterns: If you want to make a beautiful and historically accurate Victorian ensemble, you must come here! The patterns are well-made, multi-sized, and easy to follow.
Wingeo : They have wonderful men’s Regency patterns, and there aren’t too many of those out there!
Corset Making.com : A wonderful site for corset supplies.
Fire Mountain Gems and Beads : The biggest supplier of beads, gems, and jewelry supplies I’ve ever seen. they ship fast and are a joy to deal with.
Laughing Moon Mercantile: Another wonderful historical pattern company; they have a corset pattern I have used again and again!
Kaufmann’s Emporium: Run by my friends Brian and Richard Barrett, this is the place to find incredible Civil War era clothing, and they take commissions!
Harper House Patterns : Another historical pattern company.
Mrs. Parker’s Millinery and Mercantile: Lovely and amazing historical hats and bonnets; Pamela has done several bonnets for me, and is truly lovely to collaborate with!
