This is the second attempt I made at a Civil War era ball gown, and I have to say I was much more pleased with this one than the one I made for myself!
The fabric was a beautiful green and gold brocade, and I decided to leave the skirt simple as a result. My motto: less fuss is good! The pattern is the

now-discontinued Martha McCain Ball Gown Pattern, Simplicity 5724. The pattern is pretty fussy in itself, but the bodice is pretty fabulous, and goes together easily. The skirt is just five yards of fabric, gathered into the waistband, and hemmed.

Tabitha looked lovely in this color and this fabric was just a knockout on her. The bertha is gathered point d’esprit, and it’s trimmed in green velvet ribbon. In her hair are cream paper flowers (terribly period, darling!).
